On either a Saturday or Sunday afternoon you will be able to find me walking the aisles of several different grocery stores stocking up for the week ahead. I am one of the rare individuals who enjoys grocery shopping, which is good because it is related to what I do as a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner. I also like to find good deals so I shop different stores to get the best prices. I love finding products that have quality ingredients and fit into my nutrition plan.
My 5 favorite food products right now:
1. Siete Tortillas, these are amazing and they are grain-free. I love the Cassava Coconut Flour tortillas and all of the tortilla chips are tasty (addictive) too! You can find them online or at your local natural grocery store and Whole Foods. I find the best price locally to be at Whole Foods. These Tortillas would be a great substitute for your traditional flour or corn tortillas.
2. Kite Hill Cream Cheeses Style Spreads, these spreads are made with minimal ingredients, which are all natural. I especially enjoy the chive flavor. They are dairy free made from and are made from artisan almond milk. You can order Kite Hill online or. I found this product at HyVee and Whole Foods. Each Kite Hill package has a coupon (bonus!), I find the best price locally to be at HyVee. This spread would be a great substitute for your standard Philadelphia cream cheese, which contains dairy.
3. Perfect Bars, these bars are non-GMO, sweetened with organic honey and they contain ingredients such as kale, spinach, alfalfa and celery, but you would never know and taste more like a dessert! The Almond Butter and the Blueberry Cashew flavors are my favorites right now. You can find these at many local grocery stores, including Target. Locally, hands down the best price is at Target, they are frequently on sale and have been on Cartwheel lately (which if you do not have this app, you need it). These are a great snack for when you are on the go or are craving something a little sweeter and are a much better option than any candy bar and many protein bars.
4.Everything but the Bagel Sesame Seasoning Blend from Trader Joe’s. This seasoning is awesome, it is a blend of white and black sesame seeds, poppy seeds, dried garlic and onion, and sea salt flakes. I could, and do, put it on everything. If you don’t live near a Trader Joe’s I suggest asking someone who does to send you this seasoning, it is that good! Using spices and seasonings is a great way to take a dish from just ‘ok’ to ‘tasty’ without adding a lot of unnecessary ingredients.
5. Chameleon Cold Brew, an Austin, Texas original, is organic, non-GMO and is air roasted in small batches. I love the mocha flavor. You can order it online, however I’ve been able to find it at Target and Whole Foods. I have found the best deal locally to be at Target, where many times I find it on sale and on Cartwheel! Chameleon Cold Brew is a great substitute for any sugary coffee shop drink or for something different, especially on a hot summer day!
